🏡 Episode 3: The Best Ways to Search for a House

Finding a home in Korea can be tricky, especially if you're a foreigner unsure where to start. In this episode, we'll walk you through the most common ways to search for housing in Korea—from map-based websites to mobile apps and real estate agents.

🔎 1. Using Map-Based Real Estate Portals

Naver Real Estate (네이버부동산) and Daum Real Estate (다음부동산) are the two most widely used platforms in Korea. You can filter listings by area, price, and property type, and even view nearby amenities on the map.

Just keep in mind that listings may not always be updated in real time, so it's best to contact agents to confirm availability.

📱 2. Mobile Apps – Zigbang, Dabang

These apps are super popular for studio apartments and officetels. With Zigbang(직방), Dabang(다방), you can see real-time listings, price ranges, and actual photos of rooms.

They’re perfect for quick browsing and comparing properties without stepping outside.

🧑‍💼 3. Visiting Real Estate Agents

In Korea, using a real estate agent (공인중개사) is very common, especially for long-term leases like jeonse. It's a good idea to visit an office, hear their explanations, and tour the properties in person.

Foreigners are advised to look for agents with experience dealing with international clients.

🧑‍💻 4. Community Forums & Real Estate Cafés

Korean real estate forums and Facebook groups often share listings or rental tips. If you’re comfortable with Korean, you can post questions or get leads directly.

Local “mom cafés” or expat communities can also be great resources!

🧾 5. Checklist Before Signing

  • ✔️ Always check the property’s legal ownership (등기부등본).
  • ✔️ Transfer deposits via bank transfer for a clear transaction record.
  • ✔️ Inspect for mold, water pressure, and electricity before signing.
  • ✔️ Clearly outline maintenance responsibilities in the contract.
