🇰🇷 Memorial Sirens to Sound Nationwide on Korea’s 70th Memorial Day

On June 6, South Korea will observe its 70th Memorial Day (Hyunchoongil) with a nationwide moment of silence. To honor the country’s fallen patriots and war heroes, a one-minute siren will sound at exactly 10:00 AM across the country, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) announced on Tuesday.
The memorial siren is intended to remind citizens of the sacrifice and patriotic spirit of those who dedicated their lives to defending the nation. It will allow people nationwide to pause and join in silent tribute.
“Please do not be alarmed — this is not an air raid siren,” said Jang Han, Director of Civil Defense Policy at the MOIS. “When the siren sounds, we ask everyone to take a moment of silence with a solemn heart.”
The sirens are part of a national remembrance ceremony, which includes the main memorial service at Seoul National Cemetery and various local events throughout the country.
